Professional Travel Photography

Originally inspired to take up photography seriously after visiting an exhibition by Peter Lik in Australia,  travel photography remains an area of huge interest and fascination to me.

It's full of challenges and variety as, by its nature, it involves skills and techniques to handle a range of subjects: people photography, architecture photography, landscape photography, wildlife photography, differing cultures - not to mention climatic influences.

With most places now being visited regularly by holidaymakers, one of the main challenges as a travel photographer is to keep producing new and interesting shots, or different angles, of well known buildings and landscapes. The other is to find something new that hasn't previously been photographed.

These provide the creative edge to travel photography that is the challenge - and also the reward.

Architecture - travel

From ancient Moroccan kasbahs to the ultra-modern Burj al Arab in Dubai the architecture of any location illustrates so many apects of the society, from history to religion to wealth. The challenge is always to capture a different photographic angle.

Cities

Always a good source of photographic sujects, shots in this gallery are from range of locations: Bangkok, New York, Vancouver, London, Marrakesh, Thessaloniki, Reykjavik, Barcelona, Siena, Cannobio and Paris.

People

Photographing local people is always full of possibilities, and care has to be taken to avoid any offence. But it is always true to say that photographing the locals is enjoyable, and often very rewarding when the results turn out as desired.

Landscape

An integral part of travel photography is capturing the local landscapes, often involving early mornings for the best light. It's not always possible to be everywhere during the 'golden hour' so a lot is making the most of what is found in somewhere new. Locations featured include Mozambique, La Reunion, Tuscany, South Africa, Austria and closer to home on Dartmoor.

Wildlife

The animal kingdom needs time and patience to get the best shots, but whether it's big game in Africa, deer in a local park or elephants in Thailand the challenge to capture a good shot is always there.

Water

Whether it's freezing or blurring waterfalls, looking out for the early/late light for those seascapes or just working out ways of shooting abstract shots water provides an endless supply of photographic opportunities almost anywhere you care to choose.
